My girlfriend does NOT pay rent, is NOT on my lease and IS a dead beat, can I kick her out?Legal Advice about Live in Girl Friend?
of course you can. of course, if this is her primary residence you may, under state law, be required to evict just as if she were a renter. that means you need to give her a 20 or a 30 day notice to leave.Legal Advice about Live in Girl Friend?
If your lease is close to running out, give notice and leave without telling your girlfriend.
In the interim, tell her she needs to pay some of the expenses of the household, like the electric and water bills. If she refuses to pay, tell her it's lights out for her and don't let her sit on your furniture to watch TV.
You would be surprised how easy it can be to get someone who's living with you ro leave on their own. It's much harder if you have a renter and he/she is uncooperative.
Golden is right. Don't be afraid to call your local police dept. and ask them what eviction laws may apply to your situation in your area. They will be happy to answer your questions, and you will feel more confident about 'giving her the boot' if you know you are acting within your legal limits. BTW, she may just high-tail it out of there once she knows she's not wanted! Good luck to you
You are on shaky ground, if you tell her to leave and she does, fine, if she protests and you go to court she is most likely a legal resident and will have to be evicted through the courts.
Yes, but to be safe follow your local eviction procedures.
