I need some advice about my ps3?

I want to change my ps3's HDD so I can get more memory at the moment it's 40GB, I heard that I can use a lap top's HDD but I'm not sure which one to get. Also if i replace my ps3's HDD will that make my warranty void?I need some advice about my ps3?
You can Change the harddrive without hurting your warranty. The sticker is not over the harddrive port.

First back up your games saves-

To copy your game saves to a jump drive or external hard drive. Connect the Jump Drive or or external hard drive to the USB port.

You will have to do the following for each User Login.

* Go to the Game icon.

* Then scroll to the Saved Data Utility.

* Press X.

* Then highlight the save file you want to copy. Press triangle.

* Select Copy press X and it will prompt you as to were you want it copied to.

* Select your USB Jump Drive or External Hard Drive.

Do this for each and every game save file even if you have multiple saves for the same game.

Do this for every User Login as well.

To change your hard drive look in your book that came with the ps3 or got http://us.playstation.com.

It takes laptop drive. Just pop the hdd cover off the side, then remove one screw and pull the hard drive out. Put the other harddrive in but do not force it.

Now to move the files back onto your PS3, Just do the following.

* When you put the usb drive in

* Go to the Game Icon Scroll to Saved Data Utility

* It should show the usb drive-

* Highlight USB drive press X -

* Then Highlight the game save you want to copy to the ps3 and press Triangle. -

* Select Copy.---and select the PS3 as the destination.

You must do this in each User Login. It might be best if you were to use a different jump drive for each user login if you have alot of game saves to manage.

Good Luck

yes. best to change it after your warranty runs out cos if you stuff up your ps3, it will no longer be under warranty as you have tampered with it. then again if everything goes well, there will be no need for your warranty.

Some advice for the future. it you know what to do and how to change your ps3's hdd before you start playing it is best do that as you don't have to transfer data. if you need to transfer your data to an external hard drive, you need to format your external hard drive.

here's a good vid on how to update hdd:

changing the hdd depends if you have to open it up and you find a sticker over one of the parts that you open and it says warranty voided if you break this seal then you know if not then it shouldnt be voided
