I need some advice I am thinking about join the Army Active Duty and take advantage of the quick-ship bonus.?

I am afraid that the recruiter promises will be only promises, I bee reading on some Websites really bad reviews about recruiters. Any advice from an ex- military would be appreciated.I need some advice I am thinking about join the Army Active Duty and take advantage of the quick-ship bonus.?
Get EVERY your recruiter ';promises'; you in writing. If he is not willing to put it into writing than more than likely it is not a promise he can keep. Also, if you are having doubts I would see if he could put you in contact with some military folks from your closest military base and that way you can get your questions answers. Remember...a recruiter is a sales person and why they don't work on commission they do have quotas that they have to meet. If you really want to join, but you think your recruiter is shady....go to the recruiter in the next town and see what kind of feeling you get from him. Joining the military is a serious decision...especially in a time of war...and its not a decision to be made without all the facts.

Good luck!I need some advice I am thinking about join the Army Active Duty and take advantage of the quick-ship bonus.?
Truthfully, 70% of the people out there who say recruiter lie all the time,

Have never been in the military.

Thats why you have a contract, just read it and make sure any promises are in the contract.

If they are, your good to go.

If they aren't, then the promises mean nothing.

Almost all the people you hear saying, they didn't get the bonus they were promised.

Either failed to pass the AIT or Tech School the bonus was to be paid after completion, or for some other reason that was the fault of the recruit.

IE: if you supposed to get a bonus as a linguist and you fail linguist school, you aren't gonna get the bonus.

And if you fail the AIT or Tech School that was in your contract, then you still have to complete your enlistment, only now you will be trained, in whatever the Military needs you to be trained in. Whether you like the new field or not.

They give you the chance to pass, they don't guarentee that you will pass.

There is a whole lot of selective hearing going on, when people talk to a recruiter, they hear what they wanna hear, not what the recruiter actually said.
The only thing that matters is what is printed on the contract you sign when you enlist. If it's on the contract you'll get it. If it's not there you won't.
I am going thru the same thing and just want to see the answers.
Hi, former military here.

First off, a recruiter will promise you anything they can think of to get you in, but just because they promised it, that does not mean you will get it. There is even no gaurantee that anything that you sign for you will get. I've seen them all... it is also the biggest joke in bootcamp. The drill sargeants laugh at you when you mention what a recruiter promised and your new found friends will laugh with you when you all realize, 'What the hell was I thinking?', when you finally find out that the main reason a recruiter is trying to get you in is for the bonus money they usually get.

The military life is not all that bad, but there are people who can and will make it hard for you. The military is filled with chumps, morons, and idiots. My recommendation for you is to research as much as possible and NEVER, EVER, EVER sign on for a military job that you do not want. If you do not get what you want, walk out.. there is nothing they can do. They will get mad, yell, blah blah blah... put them in the corner and let them know you are willing to volunteer for the military and you just want to get out of it what you want.

Good luck and pack a shovel.
Not ex military but I have a friend whose brother went into the marines during Desert Storm and it ended before he saw combat and he kept his bonus... so if youre lucky and we pull out... you get the idea.
make sure that u get the job u want if they try to say that that dont have that job open then tell them that is unacceptable and u wont join unless they give u what u want.
join the navy or air force -you don't want to be cannon fodder, you are young -look down thw road ?
KILL OR BE KILLED...WTF is it?
sorry I can't offer you any advice ...but just wondering why you need money quickly. I mean could you maybe get a temp job or a loan? Schools (if it's for school that u need the money) offer lots of loans and fin aid even if your grades are not very good. Good luck with whatever your decision is.
It really depends on your recruiter. My husband is currently an Active Duty Army Recruiter. He would never lie to anyone but being so close to everything I know a lot that would. If you post specifically what he has told you maybe my husband can help and at least let you know if they can promise that or not. There are certain things that a recruiter can do and others that they can not.
OK....my boyfriend joined the army national guard when we were dating. After basic training and and extra 7 months at training, he came home with his promised bonus. Every thing seemed great, right? WRONG!!!! The army promises to pay for college tuition...but only if it's on their terms. There were some cases where they wouldn't pay for certain programs and/or books and supplies. At other times, we had to put the money out of our pocket and wait to be reimbursed. It may seem like no big deal, but it's not like we had an extra amount of money just laying around. He had his monthly drills, which honestly paid pennies! Then we got married...one week after our honeymoon he got the orders to go overseas for one year. He had just got hired at his dream job as a firefighter and then he had to leave, no questions asked. So of course he went, and came back after a year. When he got back they were so unorganized with everything. Paperwork, orders, payment information, etc. That was his biggest complaint with the army, the lack of organization, and how everyone is out for themselves. It didnt feel like ';an army of one'; for him. Then he still had to do drills while he was working as a firefighter. Normally, they're supposed to give you at least a month's notice so that you can take off of work at your civilian job...not him. He got calls maybe a week in advance, and then when he had a schedule conflit with work, the army didnt care. They made him take vacation time off of his job to go to their one/two day trainings where he made a third of what he'd make for a full day at his normal job. He is now considered inactive for another year, and he said there's no way in hell he'd reenlist. Every person that asks his opinion/advise about joining, he always tells them not to do it, unless they are really looking to make the military a career. Hope it helps....if you're in a relationship, make sure your significant other is ready for it...because it's not easy!
I've enlisted back in June and shipping out early due to new incentive. Anything they promise has to be in your contract when you go to MEPS.As long as its in there you have to receive it. Dont worry I know it sounds too good to be true but if its in your contract thats all that matters.
