Paste car wax, any experienced or knowledgeable experts out there with advice about paste wax for cars?

Depends on what you want to know, lol. I personally prefer liquid to paste, but it took me a little while to get used to. I started using liquid because we had a car with a single stage paint job and one with base/clear and the single stage car was shedding color into the paste wax. The best part of liquid is nothing can fall into it that could end up on the applicator and scratch the paint.

Here's a nice write up on detailing, maybe it can help answer the questions you have: http://www.squidoo.com/showcardetailingPaste car wax, any experienced or knowledgeable experts out there with advice about paste wax for cars?
New or old car? All new cars are clear coated and you should choose a wax that says 'Clear coat safe';. If the finish looks dull or scratched (dullness and swirls like on so many dark colored cars are just fine scratches) you may need a buffing compound like Dupont 101, Acme 50, 3M Super Heavy Duty before waxing.

The secret to a mirror-shiny finish is using incrementally finer grit abrasives until there are no more visible scratches! Wet-n-dry 1200 grit sandpaper is slightly less coarse then brasso metal polish! (really!) Rubbing compound is next, then buffing compound, then scratch remover products, then past waxes. If you use paste wax on a dry pad, you will dull and scratch your shine!

If your car is not scratched or swirled or faded or stained, I would say use liquid wax which is still abrasive, but generally less so! Keep your pad or rag damp and switch to a clean one often.

Have fun!

ps- I use good old fashioned turtle Super Hard Shell Car Wax!
