i have gained 20lbs from insulin pump therapy. i exercise when i get the chance but with work and two children i struggle to shed the pounds and to find some easy recipes using everyday ingredients. can anyone give me some tips?I have type 1 diabeties and need advice on how to shed about 20lbs?
What's been working for me is eating a lower-carb diet. I don't do Atkins, but I try to keep my meals under 30-35g per meal, with one or two %26lt;15g snacks throughout the day. Insulin is partially stored as fat, and the theory is that because we give ourselves insulin in big doses rather than the body giving it more slowly, that contributes to slight weight gain in Type 1's. I have been losing a pound or two a week with just mild exercise, and I don't feel hungry like I did with Weight Watchers. The other thing is that eating lower carbs will help you control your BG's better, so you won't go low as much and have to eat to bring yourself back up.
Here are some typical things I eat:
Breakfast: eggs/turkey ham/2% cheese, whole wheat crackers w/spread cheese, turkey bacon %26amp; eggs (I make them up ahead of time for the whole week), Atkins shakes or bars
Lunch: 1/2 sandwich %26amp; salad, chicken salad, tuna %26amp; 1 cup soup, crackers/cheese/apple, broccoli cheese soup (get those Bear Creek packages at the store and make up the whole thing and freeze part of it)
Dinner: chicken %26amp; salad, steak/small baked potato/grilled veggies, soup %26amp; salad
Snacks: diet hot cocoa (put a little creamer in it, yum!), veggies %26amp; dip, diet yogurt, diet chocolate pudding (Jell-O dark chocolate is great)I have type 1 diabeties and need advice on how to shed about 20lbs?
I have noticed with exercise you can maybe lower or get off the medication. I know it will be hard but I will tell eat the diabetic diet. I know it;s nasty and leaves you with nothing good to eat but vegetables and nothing else. It will lower fat, cholesterol and sugars. Like Jack Lalane stated if man made it do not eat it. I have the same problem because my mother is a type 2 diabetic and she has a problem with the diet, but with exercise she lost Weight and lowered her glucophage. I am over weight along with my 13 yr. old son and we are all starting a daily walking plan starting in spring. I live in Upstate New York so it will be winter until May. I know exercise and diet will help. Take the kids with you because as a family it will be easier.
It is tough to balance, work, kids and sugar levels! You should work on incorporating more fresh veggies and whole grains in your diet. Low Fat, Low Sugar, (you have to read the labels, because sometimes the low fat stuff adds sugar to make it taste better) You also will need to try to add more exercise. Try to take the kids to the park, zoo, etc. Even taking a 30 minute walk on your lunch hour can do wonders. Good Luck,
Cut the amount of salt, sugar and fat in your diet. Take note of what your average intake of each, and cut out at least half. Eat more fruits and vegetables. And lastly, exercise at least 2 hours a week. Your exercises can be anything from jogging, walking, playing sports or weight training.
Remember, if you're not willing to do it for yourself.....do it for your children. Children look up to their parent(s) and will follow in their footsteps.
